Az már az összeállításokból is látszik, hogy José Mourinho jóval komolyabban vette ezt a meccset mint citys kollégája.
Az első félidőre nem is érdemes különösebben kitérni. A második játékrész elején nagyon bekezdett a United, előbb Pogba lövését tolta a kapufára Caballero, majd Zlatan Ibrahimovic passza után Juan Mata megszerezte a meccs egyetlen gólját.
Guardiola hiába küldte be Raheem Sterlinget és Sergio Agüerót is, az eredmény már nem változott, Mourinho közös történetük során negyedszer győzte le Guardiola aktuális csapatát.
